I'm asking for opinions from seasoned video people. I have a Canopus 110 to hardware encode analogue to DV into Final Cut. I also have EyeTV 200 to hardware encode MPEG into it's own software.
My goal is the best possible DVD storage of a broadcast video telecast.
If there's no need for editing would there be a gain in quality by capturing in DV and then using Compressor to get a fine quality MPEG-2 for DVD authoring.. or.. Is the hardware MPEG-2 encoder a smarter way to go because the final product is also MPEG-2?
depends on the quality of the hardware encoder, Ed.
If it's a cheap one, you will likely get better quality from Compressor.
And if you mean making DVD-Video discs, remember you iwll need an EMELENTARY STREAM encoder,
and not one that captures broadcast TV as Program or System streams with audio/video interleaved.
